Israeli forces install checkpoints in southern Hebron

JUNE 16, 2017 11:37 A.M. (UPDATED: JUNE 16, 2017 2:24 P.M.)
HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces set up several checkpoints at the entrances of towns and villages in the southern part of the occupied West Bank district of Hebron on Thursday night.
Palestinian security sources and locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces set up a checkpoint at the southern entrance of Hebron city and at the entrances of the areas of al-Thahriyeh and al-Samou.
According to sources, Israeli soldiers stopped and searched several vehicles and the IDs of passengers.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the closures.
Palestinian communities are routinely subjected to arbitrary road closures by Israeli military forces for purported "security reasons," an act which rights groups have denounced as amounting to collective punishment.
