HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces on Monday began leveling lands in a Palestinian village in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, in preparation for the construction of a new military watchtower in the area.
Locals from Wadi al-Shanja told Ma’an that Israeli forces escorted bulldozers onto lands owned by the Abu Arqoub and Abu Sheikha families of the village, who had previously had their lands confiscated by Israeli forces.
The bulldozers leveled approximately 1,200 square meters of land, which according to locals, are to be used for a new military watchtower in order to “protect Israeli settlers passing by” on a nearby route.
A spokesperson for COGAT, the Israeli agency responsible for enforcing the government’s policies in the occupied West Bank, was not immediately available for comment.
