Funeral held for former prisoner who died from 'medical negligence' in Israeli custody
MAY 2, 2017 8:23 P.M. (UPDATED: MAY 2, 2017 10:32 P.M.)
Crowds set off from Ramallah’s old mosque to the cemetery in Ramallah’s industrial zone.
Head of the Palestinian Committee of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Qaraqe condemned the assaults, violations, and medical neglect Palestinian prisoners face in Israeli custody during the funeral.
Qaraqe said earlier in the day that al-Mughrabi, a 45-year-old resident of the village of Abwein in the Ramallah district, died at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah after suffering from kidney failure.
Qaraqe added that al-Mughrabi, who was released from Israeli prison around two years ago after serving a five-year sentence, contracted kidney issues "as a result of medical negligence" while in Israeli custody.
Rights groups have widely condemned Israel for a "deliberate policy of neglect" of Palestinian prisoners.
