The former head of the pro-Israeli Anti-Defamation League, Abraham Foxman, has blasted President Barack Obama for implying that all Jews are warmongers during his Iran speeches.

The US president is "fueling and legitimizing anti-Semitic stereotypes out there that Jews are warmongers," he told CNN.

"Some of us in the [Jewish] community are troubled the messaging will be used and abused by bigots," he added.

The former official explained that Obama says those who are against the recent Iran nuclear agreement are seeking war with the country.

President Obama has repeatedly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his opposition to the July 14 accord and his efforts to block it in Congress next month.

During a speech at American University last week, Obama said that "because this is such a strong deal, every nation in the world that has commented publicly, with the exception of the Israeli government, has expressed support."

“Let's not mince words: the choice we face is ultimately between diplomacy or some form of war,” Obama said. “Wars in general, wars in the Middle East in particular, are anything but simple; only certainty is human suffering.”

He later said Netanyahu failed to present a reasonable plan that would achieve what this deal achieves.

Foxman said, "To say Israelis are the only ones in the world opposed -- it's troubling messaging.”

Israel has publicly opposed the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group -- the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – in Vienna last month.
