‘Duplicitous is probably the best descriptor for how the federal government treats “unconventional” medical treatments like homeopathy. On the one hand, authorities would have us all believe that homeopathic remedies are just inert water when it comes to their efficacy; on the other, we’re told that such treatments might be “dangerous” and could cause “side effects.”
But you can’t have it both ways; either homeopathy is just harmless water or it’s actually medicine. You can’t just casually claim both and maintain a reasonable argument, in other words. But this seems to be the official position of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which recently issued a warning about homeopathic remedies for asthma urging the public not to use them because the agency hasn’t evaluated them.’
