US Putting Tanks to Russia's Border

US to Counter Russian Aggression by Sending Tanks to Russia's Border

The Pentagon will counter “Russian aggression” by sending tanks and troops to the other side of the world

Never gets old.
It’s official: Barack Obama’s “reset” with Russia has set the clock back to 1980. Via The New York Times:
[T]he Pentagon is poised to store battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons for as many as 5,000 American troops in several Baltic and Eastern European countries, American and allied officials say.
The proposal, if approved, would represent the first time since the end of the Cold War that the United States has stationed heavy military equipment in the newer NATO member nations in Eastern Europe that had once been part of the Soviet sphere of influence.
All in the name of combating “Russian aggression”, of course:

Bloomberg’s report on this announcement teeters on the edge of self-parody. Here’s one of the potential “outcomes” of sending heavy weapons to Russia’s border:
NATO officials will watch to see how Putin responds, the two U.S. officials said. The worst outcome would be an abrupt redeployment of Russian tank, infantry and air forces close to NATO’s eastern border based on a claim that the 1997 agreement had been violated, they said.
Or in English: “Russia might station its own troops on its own border if we send troops to Russia’s border. How aggressive!”
