Two Terrorist Entities, Israel and Turkey Meet for Reconciliation Talks – Reports

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor LibermanIsraeli Foreign Ministry Director General Dore Gold and Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu met in Rome to resume talks on a reconciliation agreement, Israeli media reported Monday, citing a senior Israeli source.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The strained Israeli-Turkish relations reached another low after the 2010 Israeli forces' attack on a Turkish humanitarian aid boat heading to the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death of 10 Turkish nationals.

The meeting between Gold and Sinirlioglu took place in Rome just weeks after Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party lost its parliamentary majority in the June 8 general election for the first time since 2002.

Gold left for Rome on Monday, informing neither National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen nor prime minister's office special envoy to Turkey Joseph Ciechanover, responsible for steering relations with the Turkish government over the past five years, the Haaretz newspaper said.

In February, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said that the normalization of relations between Israel and Turkey would not be possible until new authorities came to power in Ankara.

Currently, Tel Aviv has no ambassadors in Turkey, while Ankara has no envoys in Israel.
