(Sputnik) – There are no casualties among the diplomatic staff of the
Russian Embassy in Damascus, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the attack on the Russian Embassy on Thursday.
On Tuesday, two mortar rounds landed on the premises of the Russian Embassy in Damascus, causing damage but no injuries. Following the attack, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it considered mortar fire on its embassy a terrorist act. The members of the UN Security Council strongly condemned the Tuesday's terrorist attack on the Russian Embassy in the Syrian capital, stressing the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Following the incident, Syrian authorities strengthened embassy security.
“The explosion took place on the Syrian army
checkpoint, which is located approximately 300 meters from the embassy
building. There are casualties among Syrian servicemen,” Asiya
Turuchiyeva told Sputnik.
Turuchiyeva told RIA Novosti that no material damage was caused to the building.
