Russia’s air force Commander-in-chief will fly the famous Tu-160 over Red Square on May 9th

According to RIA Novosti, the Commander-in-Chief, Military Air Forces of Russia Colonel-General Viktor Bondarev will
fly in the Air Force component of the Victory Day celebrations on May
9th. The general told reporters late last week of his part in an
overhead air show that will involve some 143 aircraft and helicopters.
General Bondarev, who was named a Hero of the Russian Federation, is also a veteran of the Afghanistan and Chechnya conflicts. Bondarev told reporters during a recent conference that he would lead the flight procession flying in the vaunted supersonic Tu-160, the world’s largest combat aircraft.
The general graduated from the Borisoglebsk Higher Military School of Pilots (1981), Air Force Academy named after Yu.A. Gagarin (1992), and the Military Academy of the Russian Federation Armed Forces General Staff (2004). He is a highly decorated pilot, Pilot-Sniper, with some 3,000 plus flight hours in various aircraft he has mastered, including the L-29, MiG-21, and the Su-25. Bondarev has also received the Order of Service to the Homeland in the USSR’s Armed Forces, the Order of Courage, the Order’s Medal of Merit for the Fatherland 2nd grade, and 11 medals and other major decorations.
The upcoming events of May 9th to celebrate allied victory over Nazi Germany in World War II will reportedly be the most extravagant and elaborate ever held on Red Square.
