Russia's Navy ship evacuated 308 people from 19 states, including 45 Russian citizens from Yemen.
MOSCOW
(Sputnik) — Russia's Navy ship Priazovye has evacuated 308 people
from Yemen, where Saudi Arabia-led coalition is carrying out a military
operation against the Houthi rebels, a spokesman for Russia's Defense
Ministry Igor Konashenkov said Sunday.
"Among the evacuated from the zone of hostilities in Aden area are
citizens of 19 states, including 45 Russian citizens," Konashenkov
stated.
According to him, all the citizens evacuated are safe and are
currently on board of the Russian ship that will deliver them
to Djibouti by morning.
The Russian warship Priazovye carries out a scheduled mission in the
Gulf of Aden as part of the anti-piracy measures, Gen. Maj. Konashenkov
added.
Yemen has been in turmoil since the Shiite Houthi rebels began quick advances in several locations across the country.
In late March, Saudi Arabia, alongside several other Arab states,
including Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, started carrying
out airstrikes against positions of Houthi rebels, following a request
from Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who fled the country
amid the hostilities.
