“I find your opposition to congressional oversight offensive and hypocritical and your posture towards Israel deeply disturbing,” Gov. Huckabee began as he mentioned Kerry’s “Face the Nation” appearance on CBS Sunday. Kerry said the letter sent by 47 Senators to Iranian officials on nuclear talks was “unconstitutional.”
“Congress has the constitutional responsibility to serve as a check-and-balance on the executive branch,” Huckabee set Kerry straight. “As has been done with immigration, health care and many other issues, the Obama Administration is once again deliberately bypassing Congress and exceeding its constitutional authority.”
Huckabee, the Governor of Arkansas from 1996 until 2007, informed Kerry that his “criticisms are hypocritical.”
“You launched yourself into the public spotlight by directly and publicly criticizing the executive branch in a Senate committee hearing forty-four years ago,” Huckabee reminded the Secretary. “In 1985, you did more than just send a letter to a foreign nation—you flew to Nicaragua to negotiate with Daniel Ortega and other Sandinistas despite express opposition from the Reagan Administration.”
When Kerry claimed the Senate letter was “unprecedented” and “wrong,” Huckabee turned the tables on him. “The fact is, your willingness to trust Iran and undermine Israel is what is unprecedented and wrong,” Huckabee stated.
Huckabee tore into Kerry regarding the boycott of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recent visit to Congress in Washington.
“Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East and Iran is the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism,” Huckabee wrote. “As an American, I am embarrassed that you, Vice President Biden and other high-ranking administration officials boycotted Netanyahu’s address to Congress yet never miss an opportunity to visit with Iranian leaders.”
During Huckabee’s tenure as Arkansas Governor, his administration continuously battled the established and corrupted political machine. The result was many indictments and convictions of prevailing legislators and other elected officials.
Governor Huckabee was in Israel in February when the U.S. State Department released a travel warning for that country. The Governor posted on his website that questioned that decision because being “in Israel right now and things are much calmer than in Chicago where the homicide rate is 10 times that of Israel.”
“Maybe instead of trying to discourage Americans to visit Israel, the Obama Administration should warn citizens to stay out of his hometown, Rahm Emmanuel’s Chicago,” Huckabee jabbed. “And add to that list New Orleans and Detroit, where the homicide rate in those 2 American cities is 30 times that of Israel.”
“Do you think the travel warning to Israel might have anything to do with the Obama people trying to prevent the Israeli Prime Minister from speaking to Congress and the American people about the threat of Iran, or is it because of their attempt to influence the elections in Israel?”
