16 Haredi Teens Arrested For Allegedly Harassing, Assaulting Minority Bus Drivers
The gang regularly boarded a
Saturday night midnight bus that runs from the largest shopping mall in
Petah Tikva to Elad. If the driver was a minority – an Ethiopian Jew or
an Arab-Israeli – the teens would terrorize them, vandalize the bus and
the drivers’ property, and refuse to pay for the ride. If the driver was
not a minority, the teens behaved.

16 teenage boys from the haredi town of
Elad were detained by police today on suspicion of racist terror against
minority bus drivers.
The gang regularly boarded a Saturday
night midnight bus that runs from the largest shopping mall in Petah
Tikva to Elad. If the driver was a minority – an Ethiopian Jew or an
Arab-Israeli – the teens would terrorize them, vandalize the bus and the
drivers’ property, and refuse to pay for the ride, Behadrei Haredim reported. If the driver was not a minority, the teens behaved.
Last night, the teens boarded the bus as
usual and began harassing a minority driver. But this time, sitting
with the other passengers on the bus were undercover policemen who
arrested the 16 boys, aged 15- to 17-years-old.
A Knesset subcommittee was told a few
weeks ago that minority bus drivers were facing increased harassment and
were being both verbally and physically attacked in the haredi City of
Bnei Brak and in Elad.
Police say they intend to run further sting operations to arrest the perpetrators.
