Before we dive into the stinking cesspool that is George Will's recent and vicious attack piece on Vladimir Putin, a few words on the topic of 'sophistry' are in order.
Sophistry is a rhetorical art form which relies upon ingenuity, fallacies and specious effectiveness rather than soundness of argument. A 'sophist' (in the modern day sense of the word) is therefore a person who debates adroitly but reasons superficially. In some cases, sophistry is used to cover up one's underlying ignorance of the subject matter. Other times, the purpose of sophistry is to deliberately mislead.
What distinguishes the sophist from the run-of-the-mill ignoramus or liar is his ability to sound intelligent and well informed. In some cases, the sophist will indeed display sound reasoning and deep knowledge on a given topic. But when an ignorant sophist opines on matters which he does not understand, his bloated ego compels him to 'fake it'. Whether he is a cunning liar or simply a puffed-up fool, the tactics of the sophist are the same.

Sophists are generally quite erudite and engaging, combining a powerful command of the language and excellent diction with a vast vocabulary of $100 words that they throw around to impress their weak-minded targets. The really effective sophists are also skilled at using body language to enhance their phony facade of deep wisdom.  Dramatic pauses for effect, nose in the air, pensive looks, constipated grimaces while speaking, pen-in-hand while making a point, and a hand-to-the-chin-and-lips (ala Rodin's 'Thinker' statue) are some of the more recognizable gestures of the show-time sophist.

 

In the fake-ass worlds of Academia, Journalism, Hollywood and Politics, these pseudo-intellectual imposters are a dime-a-dozen: Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Bill Moyers, Peggy Noonan, Ann Coulter, George Clooney, Charlie Rose, Charles Krauthammer, Rachel Maddow, Bob Costas, Chris Matthews, Diane Sawyer, Brian Williams, Alan Greenspan, John Kerry, Prince Charles, the late William F. Buckley and so many others.
But if there is a 'poster boy' for American sophistry, it would have to be the smug bow tie-wearing mega nerd of 'This Week' fame, syndicated columnist George Will. Often referred to as one of the "smartest men in America", the highly articulate Will, depending on what day it is, will vacillate between sublime brilliance and stupendous sophistry.  As an Establishment-approved 'conservative', this is not surprising. The Leftist-Globalist PRC (Predatory Ruling Class) will allow Will to shine 'from the Right' from time to time; but when it comes time for all hands (Left and Right) to come on deck in service of a major Globalist agenda battle, count on Boy Georgie to slather on the seditious sophistry.
And at this point in history, there is no agenda item more pressing than the vilification of Vladimir Putin. Enter, from stage Right: Vladimir Putin’s Hitlerian Mind, by George Will, with line-by-line block rebuttal by your logically sound intrepid reporter.

The Islamic State is a nasty problem that can be remedied if its neighbors, assisted by the United States, decide to do so. Vladimir Putin’s fascist revival is a crisis that tests the West’s capacity to decide.

When Will speaks of 'fascism', he means it in the mythological sense of the word, not the historic. You know; big bad Hitler plotting to conquer Planet Earth and exterminate or enslave all non-Aryans blah....blah...blah.  Notice how Will cleverly embeds the allegations of a "fascist revival" and a "crisis" as a given, and then quickly redirects the subject to how the West should handle it. Salesmen refer to this cunning rhetorical tactic as 'assumptive selling'. Sorry George. We will not allow you get away with slipping such poisonous assumptive 'mickeys' into our journalistic drinks. Either prove your underlying premise of a "facist revival' (in the sense you mean it), or cut the crap about some dangerous "crisis" caused by Putin.

George Will uses an 'assumptive selling' close to sell the Putin-Hitler scam. 


Here we have a combination of outright lies with deliberate omissions. The term "serial amputations" implies that Putin iniated Crimea's reunification with Russia as well as the uprisings in Eastern Ukraine. Those are flat out lies that can only be sold by deliberately omitting the true circumstances of the events which preceded this crisis. Will knows full well that angry Crimeans and Eastern Ukrainians only rose up after a democratically elected National government was violently overthrown by NATO / CIA- backed puppets.
Violent coups; how "Hitlerian"!...No; scratch that. Hitler and the 'Nazis' actually came to power peacefully and democratically.
Surely, the oh-so-smart Will must also know that the Crimean people, including the Tatar minority, then voted overwhelmingly to return to their historic Russian Motherland. But why bother to include such pertinent, though inconvenient details when you are selling World War III?


Ah the 'sins of omission'! The dishonest George Will  wants us to forget how his boy John McCain helped to personally incite the Kiev rent-a-mob to stage a violent coup."America stands with you!", declared the warmongering Senator from Arizona to the eventual bomb-throwers of the pro-EU mobs of Maidan Square.

Will neglects to mention how the violent CIA-backed and McCain-backed coup angered the Russian-speaking people of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. 

Suppose Ukraine is merely his overture for the destruction of NATO, the nemesis of his Soviet memory. Then what might be his version of the Gleiwitz radio-station episode 75 years ago?

"Suppose"? Hey George, "suppose" Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Venezuela, Lebanon (and God knows what other countries) are merely America's "overture for the destruction of" innocent men, women and children everywhere. Let me tell you something you warmongering pencil-neck geek; outside of the insane asylum known as "the West", it is the good ole USA-Israel Axis that keeps people up at night, not Putin! Notice Will's attempt to dust off the Cold War by alluding to Putin's "Soviet memory"? How did Putin suddenly go from being a 'Nazi' to a 'Soviet' (polar opposites)? Make up your mind as to which childish ad hominem line of logically flawed attack you want to pursue and stick with that, Georgie.   Now George, tell us about that "Gleiwitz radio-station".   USA! USA! The holier-than-thou Will was a huge supporter of the immoral war against Iraq, and he was silent about America's torture of prisoners, including women and children!

On the evening of August 31, 1939, Nazi SS personnel pretending to be Polish partisans seized the station, which was about four miles inside Germany (Gliwice is now in Poland), proclaiming that Poland was invading Germany to achieve “our just [territorial] claims,” and shot a German prisoner dressed in a stolen Polish uniform, giving Hitler his pretext for declaring war the next day.

Please, not the Gleiwitz false-flag fairy tale again. This coming from a guy who has made a career of mocking 'conspiracy theories'. Here's a bit of real history you'll not hear from sophist Will.
In the days leading up to the outbreak of the German-Polish War / World War II, the ultra-Nationalistic Polish military government (with the encouragement and blessing of Britian & France) did indeed 'look the other way' while Partsian Bolshevik gangs repeatedly provoked Germany with cross-border attacks as well as attacks on Germans stranded in Poland since the post-World War I treaties. When Hitler finally responded, Britain and France had their pretext for declaring war upon Germany.
Should anyone doubt the agressiveness and murderous intent of the Soviet-backed Bolshevik gangs of Poland, look into the massacre at Bromberg which took place just 2 days after the Gleiwitz incident. At Bromberg, German villagers were tied together and physically mutilated by what Will casually describes as "Polish Partisans" (Communists). The abuse of Germans at the hands of these terror gangs is a undeniable fact of history that Mr. Will, again, conveniently omits from his propaganda piece.

Evidently, the wonder-boy of the Washington chattering class, in citing the Gleiwitz myth, wants us to believe that the coming provocations of Putin will actually be Russian false-flags designed to frame Ukraine or one of the NATO (US)-owned Baltic States. Hey George, ever hear of the Maine? The Lusitania? Operation Northwoods? Tonkin Gulf? Those were all frame-up attempts that the US now even admits to. Talk about narcissistic-sociopathic projection.

President Johnson used the PHONY election-year attack at Tonkin Gulf as the pretext for escalating the war in Vietnam.

Putin has discarded the minor inhibitions of what NATO calls his “hybrid war” — giving slightly surreptitious aid to Russian separatists; brazenly infiltrating Russian soldiers in unmarked uniforms. Russia has invaded Ukraine, although the Obama administration likes the semantic anesthesia of calling it an “incursion.” Putin does not pretend that it will be, like President Nixon’s 1970 “incursion” into Cambodia, temporary.

In accusing Russia of invading Ukraine, Will is repeating a claim which originated with the gangsters of Kiev; the same CIA-backed gang of criminals that violently overthrew an elected Russia-friendly government. To take such a claim at face value is bad enough for someone regarded as "one of the smartest men in America". But Will's regurgitation of this lie becomes even more laughable when we hear the actual 'testimony' of the key 'witnesses' that the sophist New York Times quoted when it originally broke this false invasion story on its front page.

Ihor Sharapov, a soldier with the Ukrainian border patrol unit, said he had seen tanks drive across the border, although they were marked with flags of the Donetsk People’s Republic. “I tell you they are Russians, but this is what proof I have,” said Sgt. Aleksei Panko, holding up his thumb and index finger to form a zero."

 

Hey wonder boy of the Washington Press! Pardon my skepticism. But might you be able to produce parties a tad bit more credible than Sulzberger's Times, or Sgt. 'zero evidence' Panko? Please?

 

 

 

  

 Well now, George. As the 2003 "Colin Powell and the Weapons of Mass Destruction" issue above (and also 100 separate stories over a 1 year period) proved; if The New York Times says so, it must be true! 

So, suppose Putin, reprising his Ukrainian success, orchestrates unrest among the Russian-speaking minorities in Latvia, Lithuania, or Estonia. Then, recycling Hitler’s words that his country “could not remain inactive,” Putin invades one of these NATO members. Either NATO invokes Article 5 — an attack on any member is an attack on all — or NATO disappears and the Soviet Union, NATO’s original raison d’être, is avenged.

Here we ago again with "suppose". What kind of rubbish is this? "Suppose"? This is pure logical fallacy.
"Suppose" I were to assume that my neighbor two doors down, whom I  know nothing about, wants to kill me. Should I call the police and have him arrested? Imagine:
9-1-1 Operator: "9-1-1. What is your emergency?
Me: "I am 'supposing' that my 'fascist' neighbor wants to come and kill me. You must come and arrest him!"

Speaking of war, George, given the fact that you seem to always advocate for bloodshed, why did you run off to Oxford instead of puting your own life on the line during the Vietnam War? Although no one more thoroughly detested Hitler’s regime that General Erwin Rommel served, Winston Churchill acknowledged in January 1942 in the House of Commons the talent of Britain’s enemy: “We have a very daring and skillful opponent against us, and, may I say across the havoc of war, a great general.”

George, please! Enough with the stupid and irelevant World War II anologies! The whole theme is so played out and juvenile. It's always a sure sign of an empty intellectual arsenal when one must resort to the tiresome mantra of Hitler-Hitler-Hitler-Hitler-Hitler. We can forgive a college freshman for engaging in such juvenile pre-sophistry, but not "one of the smartest men in America".

 

 

Putin is, the West should similarly acknowledge, more talented and dangerous than either Nikita Khrushchev or Leonid Brezhnev. Their truculence was not fueled by fury. Putin’s essence is anger. It is a smoldering amalgam of resentment (of Russia’s diminishment because of the Soviet Union’s collapse), revanchist ambitions (regarding formerly Soviet territories and spheres of influence), cultural loathing (for the pluralism of open societies), and ethnic chauvinism that presages “ethnic cleansing” of non-Russians from portions of Putin’s expanding Russia.

 

Putin is "more dangerous than Khruschev or Brezhnev", eh George? Really? Really?! You have really gone off the deep end now.
George, you were already a snot-nosed teenager at some high-falutin prep school when Khrushchev brutally smashed the Hungarian freedom uprising with his tanks.  And you were at Princeton or Oxford about the same time that Khrushchev's agent, Fidel Castro, overthrew the Cuban government and then hosted Soviet missiles.  Later that same year (1960), the nut-case Khrushchev removed his shoe and pounded it on the lectern at the UN, and later threatened to "bury" America.  Surely you haven't forgotten such gross displays of "truculence" (aggressiveness) and "fury" on the part of Khrushchev?

George; you were a full-fledged member of the DC Idiocracy when Brezhnev deliberately destabilized Southern Africa and Central-South America with proxy Red revolutionaries. One year after the death of the notoriously pompus Brezhnev, his own succesor, KGB boss Yuri Andropov, presided over the reckless shoot-down of KAL Flight 007, and then tried to cover it up! When has the calm statesman Vladimir Putin ever behaved with such "fury-fueled truculence"?

Surely you must know that Putin is very popular among Russia's Tatar, Central Asiatic and Muslim minorities; so much so that Russia's small minority of violent 'White Power' skin-heads (cultivated by the CIA) have mocked Putin for "feeding the Caucuses" and tolerating Islam.
Speaking of "ethnic chauvinism" and "ethnic cleansing", George; how is your idol Bibi Netanyahu doing these days? When are you going to do a piece about Israel's on and off genocide campaign in Gaza, George? (cue crickets)

Well George, if you insist on bringing up the issue of German resentment, I would remind you that Germany was tricked into laying down its arms in 1918, and then brutally gang raped at gun-point during the post-war Peace Conferences.

 

 

 

 

Germany's hyperinflation was the direct result of Allied oppression. Money became so worthless that wheelbarrows were used to carry it on shopping trips.When the French demanded resources instead of worthless Marks, they reoccupied the German Ruhr territory in 1924. Germans protested but were powerless to stop the post-war shakedown.

 

 

Let's not digress too much into the commonly accepted lies told about World Wars I & II, but let us acknowledge that the post-World War I conduct of the victorious British and French was reprehensible. The same can be said about what the rapacious West did to Russia following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

 

Remember the Yeltsin years and the Harvard-Wall Street  'privatization shock therapy'? I know that you do, George. You just don't want your gullible readers to know.

 

 

Russia under the drunken President Yeltsin was raped by American economic hit-men and their Russian Oligarch allies. 'Darkness at Dawn' by David Satter tells the sad story of a nation brought to its knees. George Will fails to mention how Putin has cleaned up Russia and restored its economy and civil society.

 

Since its emancipation by the Soviet Union’s demise, Ukraine has been ravaged by corruption that frays national sentiment, which even before this was a tenuous phenomenon. In The Long Shadow: The Legacies of the Great War in the Twentieth Century, David Reynolds of Cambridge University cites a British diplomat’s 1918 analysis:

Were one to ask the average peasant in the Ukraine his nationality, he would answer that he is Greek Orthodox; if pressed to say whether he is a Great Russian, a Pole, or an Ukrainian he would probably reply that he is a peasant; and if one insisted on knowing what language he spoke, he would say that he talked “the local tongue.”

Ukraine may be an ethnic casserole susceptible to diminishment by Putin’s ladle. But the Baltic States, by virtue of their NATO membership, are, regardless of their histories or sociologies, decisively different. And given Putin’s animus, nourished by his negligibly resisted success in Ukraine, he is more dangerous than the Islamic State.

 

Because Putin has refused to rake Ukraine's bait, and also because Ukraine is not formerly a member of NATO, the Globalists will have a really hard time legally justifying their war against Russia. It clearly seems as though Will is writing off Ukraine here. The provocative triggering mechanism for NATO's war will likely come from one or more of the Baltic gangster regimes of Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia - NATO members all, and US puppets all!

 

Sophist George Will, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, is unwittingly telegraphing the diabolical plan for us.

 

 

America's broken promises regarding eastward NATO expansion now has the war-making organization operating right on Russia's border with the three Baltic States (top-center). War with one means war with all!

 

Right: Ask the bombed out Serbians of 1999 (former Russian allies - now EU vassals) how wonderful the NATO gang really is!

 

U.S. participation in this should be conditional on the regional powers’ putting their militaries where their mouths (sometimes) are in the fight against radical Islamists. U.S. participation in defense of the Baltic States is unconditional.  

 

One or more of the putrid little corrupt regimes of the tiny Baltic States, encouraged from behind-the-scenes by mightier Western warmongers, can easily trigger World War III.
Ironically, there is a parallel to World War II after all!
 

Polish Ambassador Potocki exits the White House after a pre-war meeting with FDR. Potocki's own diaries have since confirmed that FDR planned to use the controversy surrounding the "Polish Corridor", which cut through Germany, as a means of provoking war with Hitler.

How appropriate, given the fact that Pulitzer was a notorious titan of Yellow Journalism, whose New York World along with Hearst's New York Journal, propagandized America into the Spanish-American war, and also Teddy Roosevelt's imperialistic Philippines War which grew out of it.

Like George Will, Pulitzer was also a warmongering journalistic fraud.
