Pro-Palestinian demonstration held in Norway

• Anti-Israeli demonstrations continue around the world. In the Norwegian capital, Oslo, the protesters gathered outside parliament. They urged the government to do more for Palestinians and take a stricter stance against Tel Aviv. But few people have big hopes from a coalition government which includes a pro-Israel party.

Norwegians stage yet another protest in solidarity with Gaza. They call Israel a terrorist and say the Norwegian government needs to do more and stop Israel from killing Palestinian children.

There is a wide range of participants here: Muslims and non-Muslims, political parties, humanitarian organizations and Palestine activists. The protesters gathered at the east end of the city centre. And now they are heading towards the Norwegian parliament where the speakers will put forward their demands. They want the Norwegian government to make sure no Norwegian weapons end up in Israel and to impose a complete boycott of Israeli products. Among the speakers is a former president of the anti-Islam organisation, Norwegian Defence League, a sister organisation of English Defence league. She says she had always been anti-Israel. She says she can make a difference by helping people change and stand up for what they believe in. But the presence of an overtly pro-Israel party like The Progress Party in the ruling coalition can be a serious challenge for the Norwegian government to take a tougher stance against Israel.
