The
Palestinian envoy to the United Nations has called for a UN resolution
on the Israeli regime’s atrocities against the besieged Gaza Strip.
At a UN General Assembly meeting in New York on Wednesday, Riyad
Mansour renewed Palestinians’ call on the Security Council, noting that
the UN’s inaction meant "constant appeasement of Israel."Mansour described Israel as a regime "above the law, immune from punishment, even when it commits war crimes and threatens international peace and security."Israel’s month-long offensive on Gaza was not enough for the 15-nation world body to condemn Tel Aviv’s crimes in the blockaded sliver.
About 1,900 people have been killed and over 9,500 others injured by the Israeli regime’s massive offensive that began on July 8.
Israeli warplanes pounded numerous sites in the Gaza Strip, demolishing houses and burying families under the rubble. Israeli forces also began a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land on July 17.
A three-day truce took effect at 8 a.m. (0500 GMT) Tuesday and Israeli troops withdrew from the coastal enclave.
