MOSCOW (August 7) RIA Novosti – Fox News anchor Sean Hannity has been slated by online communities for giving a biased account of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, after he lamented that Israeli children could not play outside despite the death of about 400 Palestinian children.
“Very close to the Gaza border there is a playground, and surrounding the playground, you have multiple bomb shelters where kids, if they hear the alarm, are told to get right into the bomb shelter,” Sean Hannity reported from Israel on Fox News Monday, adding that Israel puts a “high priority on human life.”
Earlier this week the UN reported a record death toll of 1,777 Palestinians in Gaza, of which 85% were civilians, including 393 children and 208 women.
The subtitle of Sean Hannity’s on air report read “More than 60 Israelis killed in war with Gaza.”
Hannity’s account of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has triggered harsh criticism.
“As a Jew, myself, I can sympathize with what the Israelis are going through. But when nearly 400 children have been killed in Gaza, it seems heartless and out of touch to spend a segment lamenting how Israeli children are suffering by being forced to play indoors while completely ignoring the children suffering much worse in Gaza,” said a blogger on News Hounds.
Sean Hannity’s account of the Gaza conflict has also been criticized by British celebrity-comedian Russell Brand, accusing him of “behaving like a terrorist” in his satirical You Tube digest ‘Russell Brand the Trews’.
Russell said “one of the definitions of 'terrorist' is using intimidation to reach your goals … Who in that situation was behaving like a terrorist, using bullying, and intimidation? Sean Hannity. That is where the terrorism is coming from.” The clip has had almost three million views and over 30,000 likes
