French politician has called on the country's government to disband a
radical pro-Israeli group, whose members have been attacking peace
activists during rallies against Israel's war on Gaza.
The call for banning the Jewish Defence League (LDJ), France's main pro-Israeli group, was made on Thursday following reports that an anti-Palestinian gathering was due to be held in Paris in violation of the country’s laws and regulations.
France has been the scene of several mass protests against the Israeli war on Gaza in recent weeks.
According to reports most of the rallies turned violent after LDJ members began clashing with peace activists.
France is home to the largest Muslim and Jewish communities in western Europe with around five million Muslims and half a million Jews.
The Israeli regime’s atrocities in the besieged Gaza Strip have promoted anti-Israeli demonstrations in France.
On July 20, thousands of people turned up in the streets of the capital Paris to protest against Israel’s killing of civilians, including women and children in Gaza.
More than 1,370 Palestinians have so far been killed and some 7,700 others injured since the Israeli military first launched its offensive on Gaza on July 8.
The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, has been launching retaliatory attacks against Israel.
Israeli sources have confirmed the deaths of 56 soldiers.
