downed in Lugansk: Forty-nine
Ukrainian troops were killed when their military Il-76 transport jet was
taken down by local militia forces just before it started its descent
toward Lugansk Airport. Some military hardware and supplies were lost as
well.
Russians claim Ukraine town hit with banned white
phosphorus: The city of Slavyansk
came under fire overnight on Thursday and residents told Russian media
that incendiary bombs were dropped on the city.

Department said Friday it is “confident” that tanks seen entering
eastern Ukraine in recent days came from Russia, which the department
said has also sent rocket launchers to pro-Moscow separatists.
